The Art of Passementerie: Tassel Making with Jessica Light
Overview
In this workshop, led by Jessica Light, participants will first learn about the principles of passementerie and Jessica’s career to date.
A practical, hands-on session follows, where participants learn how to make two types of key tassel alongside the process of making a ruff to embellish using passementerie techniques dating back centuries.
Jessica will lead a cord making demo.
At the conclusion of the session, participants will come away with 2 – 3 key tassels (including a tassel key fob) that they have made.
This workshop features a practical component; we encourage guests to dress in clothing suitable for creative work.
Events at the Atmosfloric Emporium take place in the Gallery, a dedicated space for ideas and discovery. Please note, the bathroom is located on a lower level and accessible only by stairs, which may limit access for some attendees.
Jessica Light AKA the Tassel Queen of Bethnal Green.
Jessica has over 30 years of experience making and weaving passementerie. She was trained by Wendy Cushing in one of the last remaining East End passementerie ateliers, and is now one of three individual makers left in the U.K. who practice this endangered heritage craft.
Jessica is now regarded as the go-to maker for contemporary design-led trims and tassels and her clients span interiors, fashion, film and royalty. She has made passementerie for Firmdale Hotels, Vivienne Westwood, and, her crowning glory, the Buckingham Palace balcony drape.
